NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — Just days after the Parkland, Fla. school shooting, threats were made to New Braunfels Middle School.

New Braunfels ISD Superintendent Randy Moczygemba has been fielding emails from parents from his desk and responding to every single concern.

"In these situations, when parents feel their kids are threatened, it becomes kind of them against us," said Moczygemba.

Moczygemba said over the last four or five years he's seen violence in, or against, schools increase.

He said his students have expressed their desire to hold walk-outs. However, he said he's torn between his first instinct, which is to encourage them to demonstrate their First Amendment right, and the safety concerns that come with a mass demonstration, especially one planned for the world to see on social media.

"We're telling them the specific date, the specific time, and the specific location that masses of students are going to be outside, and I went, 'are we not creating the perfect storm by doing that?'” said Moczygemba.

This superintendent believes there needs to be policy change.

But more than anything, Moczygemba said it's time for parents and administration to work with one another, rather than against each other, for the sake of children across the country.

"We've got to put our heads together to come up with solutions that stop these mass shootings from happening," said Moczygemba.
