JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Jamestown Mayor Sam Teresi says he's more positive and upbeat about the future of the community than he's been in his 19 years at the helm.

Teresi shared that sentiment during his recent State of the City address.

He also made available a list of several past key accomplishments and future development projects designed to create jobs and lower the tax burden.

Those on the other side of the aisle say the city is falling short with regards to its tax base and job development.

A newly-elected Republican councilman is calling on commerce and manufacturing to create jobs, lower taxes and increase property values.

"They're the ones that expand our tax base, they're the ones that increase our property values and I think we can do more,” said Andrew Liuzzo, (R) Jamestown City Councilman At Large.

"New investment and development brings new tax base and new revenue streams to pay for the services that also then lightens the load on the existing businesses and taxpayers here,” Teresi (D) said.

Development projects slated to be completed this year include the National Comedy Center and the Hilton hotel.
