Opening statements are underway in the corruption trial of Joe Percoco.

The former top aide to Governor Cuomo is facing numerous charges including fraud and extortion.      

Percoco remains accused of accepting more than $315,000 in bribes during his time in that position. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison.

Governor Cuomo is not accountable for any wrong doing at this time.

Percoco is one of nine men being charged in this string of corruption. Included in the other eight men being charged is COR Development founder Steven Aiello and attorney Joseph Girardi. 

The two are accused of paying Percoco $35,000 in bribes.

The 4th defendant is an energy company executive accused of having his company provide a "low-show" job for Percoco's wife that paid her $90,000 a year.
