ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A motor pool lined outside of the headquarters of the University of Rochester Home Care on Tuesday morning was on a mission of compassion. The Meals on Wheels program in Rochester has been delivering nutrition for mind and body throughout Monroe County since 1958. A nearly 60 year streak made possible almost entirely by volunteers.

"It's not only a hot nutritious meal that our participants get, it's that social interaction for our volunteers,” said Margaret Schweizer, the director of Meals on Wheels. “It helps give peace of mind to family members, and to the participants who know someone will be there everyday."

But only a handful of drivers are available to deliver meals to more than 700 homes, 5 days a week. That's why the University of Rochester Home Care is constantly looking for new volunteers and drivers to help, particularly during the holiday season.
