BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The newest state park in New York is also the very first in the city of Buffalo.

Buffalo Harbor State Park was officially dedicated on Wednesday, after which residents and elected officials were able to tour the new amenities.

What was once a brownfield now boasts a 1,000 slip marina, restaurant, boat launches, restrooms and a beach.

Stairs were also added into the break wall so that fishers could reach the water more easily.

The park improvements were funded through Gov. Cuomo's NY Parks 2020 program which allocates $900 million for State Parks over a 9-year span.

"It's funny because it was abandoned, and deteriorated and derelict waterfront. Almost to the point where you think you could never be rejuvenated and restored, and we've done that," said Rose Harvey, Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation commissioner.

The park also includes the ending of the 750-mile Empire Trail which spans across the entire state.
