A Chautauqua County Sheriff's Deputy is being dubbed a hero for a quick-thinking technique that saved a baby's life.

Deputy Adam McAdoo was having lunch with a few co-workers at the Mayville Diner Monday when he heard screams that a baby was choking. He says he ran over, saw the baby wasn't breathing, flipped her face-down and struck her back.

McAdoo was able to dislodge the food within seconds. He says it's all thanks to his EMT training.

"A crying baby is a good baby in that situation. It all happened so quickly like many things with this job. You kind of just do and think about it later," said McAdoo. "You don't have time to get all worked up and scared. I see my co-workers do amazing things everyday. I just happened to be at the right spot at the right time."

All Chautauqua County deputies are required to be EMTs.
