Police in northern Alabama investigating the alleged murders of a mother and daughter with ties to Western New York.

Officials from the Limestone County Sheriff's Office say 19-year-old Rosa Lee Maldonado and her 44-year-old mother, Rosa Aminta Maldonado, were stabbed to death inside a trailer in Lester, Alabama.

The 15-year-old suspect is Rosa Lee's sister and Rosa Aminta's daughter.

Rosa Lee graduated from Albion High School in 2017 and the school superintendent says "the world lost a great person who will be missed dearly." The school is providing counseling services for students.

The family had just recently moved to Alabama, near the Tennessee border.

The 15-year-old suspect attempted suicide, but is now being treated at an Alabama Hospital.

Brittanie Lewis of Albion is a family friend, she said Rosa Lee was her cherished friend, but lingering on good memories help cope.

“We were fishing, we were going to the park with the kids or going out to eat or riding around listening to music, somebody that you can talk to, somebody who was there for you, I loved her so much,” said Lewis.

A vigil for the victims is scheduled for Friday night at Bullard Park in Albion starting at 8 p.m.
