"Brilliant but stupid" is how State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman described a Buffalo woman's scheme to defraud several local organizations.

Schneiderman announced Thursday Christina Gordon of Buffalo faces several charges for scamming social service groups.

She's accused of posing as a grant writer, establishing a fictitious staff and stealing more than $200,000 from area churches.

Schneiderman says Gordon also posed as him, sending letters to groups, which were deemed fake.

Gordon was arrested last month and spent the stolen money on travel, clothing and jewelry.

"She charged fees for her services as a grant writer. And there are people who do work as grant writers. But she didn't. She just took the money," Schneiderman, (D) said.

Gordon faces significant prison time, as more victims are likely to come forward.
