ALBION, N.Y. -- Three people accused of stealing more than $2,200 worth of merchandise from a department store in Batavia were in a van speeding away from the scene before crashing in the town of Albion, Orleans County.

Davion Jackson, 23; Jeremy Siplin, 40; and Shabre Young, 25, all of Rochester, each face charges of felony grand larceny. Young faces several other chase-related charges, including reckless endangerment, fleeing a police officer and reckless driving.

Deputies with the Genesee County Sheriff's Office stated that Kohl's employees said three people left the shopping plaza in a van. A van with the matching license plates was spotted by a deputy and state trooper around 1:30 p.m., heading north on Route 98.

The van sped up after an attempted traffic stop, and deputies said during the pursuit, some of the merchandise was thrown out the window.

When the van turned onto Lime Kiln Road, deputies said the van, still traveling at a high rate of speed, left the roadway and overturned, hitting a utility pole.

Two people inside fled on foot but were quickly caught, said deputies. Young was taken to the hospital but turned back over to authorities after getting checked out.

Jackson, Siplin and Young were all arraigned in Town of Batavia Court. All three are scheduled to return to court on December 7.
