Which party controls the State Senate next year will effect the whole state.

But the key battles are being fought on Long Island.

There are nine districts on the Island, and until former majority leader Dean Skelos was convicted of corruption charges, they were all held by Republicans.

But Democrats have picked up two seats since then- and are hoping for at least one more in November.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone is trying to help with that effort.
