Almost one week ago, 17 people lost their lives when a student entered a Florida high school with an AR-15 and started shooting. And now, lawmakers in Washington and here in New York are debating the issue of mass shootings and gun violence, whether there needs to be more focus on mental health or gun control. Governor Cuomo is focused on the latter, touting the passage of the SAFE Act and saying that other states should follow New York's lead. President Trump on Tuesday signaled that he wants to ban bump stocks, which was not a factor in the Florida shooting.
