ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — One week after being benched, Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor will be back in the starting lineup for this Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Head Coach Sean McDermott made the announcement Wednesday morning that Taylor will replace Nathan Peterman as the squad's starter.

"When you go through the situation and where we are and where we're going, I feel like it's the right thing for this team. Just like a week ago I felt the right thing for the team was to start Nate. I feel like the right thing for this team is to start Tyrod," said McDermott.

Peterman, a rookie who was selected in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL draft, was benched during last Sunday's game against the Chargers after he threw five interceptions on 6-14 passing.

In relief duty, Tyrod proved more effective than the rookie, throwing for 158 yards and a touchdown on 15-25 passing attempts. Despite Taylor's efforts, the Bills lost handily, 54-24 — the team's third-straight double digit loss.

"There's always been a chip on my shoulder. From when I was playing rec league, even up to when I was drafted in the sixth round and things that I've been through throughout my time in the NFL. It just made that chip bigger," said Taylor.

At 5-4, the Bills are currently one game out in the race for an AFC wildcard playoff spot, but with a tough remaining schedule that includes two games against the defending Super Bowl champions and division rival New England Patriots, the Bills don't have much room for error.
