John Gabriel was born and raised in the Capital Region which makes him
uniquely qualified to report on area highways from the Spectrum News Traffic Center.
He began his broadcast career at the age of 15 while still in high school, and has been a local radio personality for over 45 years. His broadcast and management experience includes work in radio and television in Syracuse, Utica, Roanoke, Virginia, and Charleston, West Virginia as well as the Capital Region.
John and his wife Kathleen are the proud grandparents to seven grandchildren, and enjoy spending time with them. They reside in Waterford, the same town where John grew up.
John’s hobbies include channel surfing on the TV, 50s, 60s and 70s pop culture, collecting oldies music on vinyl and radio broadcasting, where he has a Saturday afternoon radio show on WROW, Magic 590AM/100.5 FM in Albany.
John begins his fifth year reporting traffic for Spectrum News and you can hear his traffic reports for the Capital Region & Hudson Valley weekday mornings between 6-9 a.m., and afternoons between 4-7p.m. Monday through Friday -- or whenever there’s a problem on Capital Region and Hudson Valley roadways.
