HIGHLAND FALLS, N.Y. — Voters in the Highland Falls - Fort Montgomery Central School District approved the regions Proposed Capital Project Wednesday evening, bringing synthetic turf fields to athletic complexes in the district.

Not all members of the community were thrilled with the proposal of turf fields being installed at area schools.

Last month, critics held a community forum to discuss concerns they have about the installation.

They cited health studies on tire crumb rubber used in the field that could be manipulated by hot temperatures and other factors.

The school district issued a statement on the group's concerns saying they "found no reason to discredit the safety of these fields.”

Officials have not provided a timetable for when the new turf fields will be ready for use.
