SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Environmental Protection Agency is preparing to hold a second public meeting this week about a $1.7 billion cleanup of the Hudson River.
The EPA will take questions Wednesday night in Saratoga Springs during a public comment period for a recently released review of the Superfund project.
Officials say that based on the data so far, General Electric's cleanup of contaminated sediment from the upper Hudson looks like it will protect human health and the environment in the long run.
Many environmentalists and lawmakers in New York have disagreed with that assessment and want more work done after years of GE factories discharging PCBs into the river that finally stopped in the 1970s.
The EPA previously held its first public meeting on the review last month in Poughkeepsie, and will seek public comments until September.
