The Poughkeepsie City Fire Department paid tribute to late Assemblyman Frank Skartados, whose service helped them attain new and necessary equipment.

Two new rigs were installed on Tuesday in honor of Skartados, who died earlier this year. During his time working with the department, Skartados helped secure $1 million for new equipment. Part of that money went towards replacing old rigs. Mayor Rob Rolison said the city council took out a loan to help pay for the rest.

George Skartados, Frank's brother, and George's wife Tina attended Tuesday's dedication. With safety marked as a priority for city officials, the funding was of great importance to first responders.

"Without the generosity of Assemblyman Skartados, we would not be here today looking at these two brand new fire trucks, which are so important to the safety of not only our residents, but our firefighters," Rolison said.

The city's police department also gained 10 new cars with tributes to Skartados. The late assemblyman secured half of the money for the cars, while the other half was from Senator Sue Serino's office.
