The first weekend of fall means pumpkin picking time for some Orange County residents.

Pierson's Farms in Middletown kicked off pumpkin harvest season on Saturday.

Visitors could not only pick the perfect pumpkin, but also enjoyed a variety of autumn activities, including a six-acre corn maze, hay rides, petting zoo, and a tube slide.

Farmer Orrin Pierson notes the amount of rain this year was a challenge, as pumpkins risk getting softer, and tend to prefer heat.

Still, people enjoyed themselves both in and out of the patch.

"We only have a few months left, and soon I'll be hibernating because of the snow, so yeah, this is the time to get out and enjoy," said Fort Montgomery resident April Al-Hajjar

Pierson says the fall season is when they begin to wind down at the farm, and he enjoys having the families out to celebrate the harvest. Next, they'll be selling Christmas trees in December.
