Syracuse police continue to investigate a mass shooting on the city's south side Thursday night that left five injured, including an 8-year-old girl. All are in stable condition.

Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh and Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler provided an update shortly after 11 p.m. Walsh called the shooting "senseless," saying the main concern is with the victims and their families.

Police still have no suspects.

A Spectrum News reporter at the scene says people at the scene of the shooting say that family was gathered for a celebration of life when the gunshots started. They say a family member died of pancreatic cancer Thursday.

Syracuse police say that at least one of the victims has been critically injured. The victims were taken to a local hospital by ambulance for treatment.

An hour later and three blocks north, a teenage girl was shot in the back, police said, although they said they didn't know if the two incidents were connected.

Law enforcement officials are surveying the scene, gathering evidence and conducting interviews.
