WALLKILL, N.Y. -- As Hurricane Florence continues to grow in strength, there's a local response to the storm preparations.

An American Red Cross warehouse in the town of Wallkill has supplies that people will need for the hurricane that's about to hit the coast, and a Hudson Valley couple says they'll do whatever they can to help people in need.

Linda and Brian McMullan have what they need and they are scheduled to help in Raleigh. They say they are ready to help in any way they can. Their work with the Red Cross started with Linda McMullan: after the terrorist attacks on September 11th, she was inspired to help her community.

"It's a wonderful tribute I think, to have us go out and do some community work in memory of all of those who gave their lives on that day," said American Red Cross mass care volunteer Linda McMullan.

A few years later, her husband Brian joined her. They've helped with local and national disaster response. The Rockland County couple helped during Hurricane Harvey, and while it can be rewarding to help people, they say it also can be difficult.

"When you see someone's house gutted out after a flood, and they have to get it before they're allowed to rebuild — you just see everyone's life, everything they own, kids' toys and everything else that have to be discarded. It's very unsettling. It's very hard to do that," said American Red Cross mass care volunteer Brian McMullan.

The McMullans are going to be helping with Hurricane Florence response for at least two weeks, but they say they'll stay as long as they're needed.
