EAST FISHKILL, N.Y. — Just as a lightning storm hits, the home Mike Navor grew up in burns.

“All of a sudden, there was a huge explosion,” said Navor.

He’s been renovating it, and was working on it when the fire started at around 4 p.m. Thursday.

“I couldn’t find anything, so I walked around and walked outside. Then my neighbor said my roof was on fire,” said Navor.

About 200 first responders worked the scene.

East Fishkill Fire Chief Kevin Geysen says the cause is under investigation.

“When we arrived, there were flames already through the roof, heavy involvement in the attic and second floor,” said Geysen.

Neighbors say they heard a crack of lightning, then looked outside to see this.

Three firefighters were hurt while working the fire, which was still burning four hours after it began. No one else was hurt.

Geysen says those three injured firefighters were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. He couldn’t elaborate on their injuries, but said they should be fine.

As for Navor’s childhood home, Geysen can’t yet say whether it’s a total loss. He does say it has extensive damage.
