ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Red Cross is helping four adults and nine children after fire destroyed their home Sunday night.

It started inside a Griffith Street home around 8 p.m. And luckily, some firefighters and police officers weren't far away.

"There were some citizens on the back roof, not really in danger. They came out of the window on the roof. And a gentleman in a wheel chair on the first floor. Believe it or not, our fire investigators happened to be in the area. And a fire investigator and a couple RPD officers actually helped them down off of the roof,” said Rochester Fire Department Deputy Chief David Kaltenbach.

Firefighters say they had trouble getting all of their equipment down the narrow road.

The home has significant damage, but no one was hurt.
