An Orange County man is getting a new trial after his manslaughter conviction was thrown out.

An appellate court reversed the conviction Wednesday of David Carlson, regarding the death of Norris Acosta-Sanchez in 2013.

Acosta-Sanchez was wanted for rape, and Carlson had been working with police to help cature him.

Carlson was indicted on a murder charge, and convicted on a first-degree manslaughter charge.

He and his lawyer argued that he acted in self-defense.

The decision focused on the use of the term "statutory rape" during jury selection, which the appeals court says jurors may have misinterpreted.

The case is being sent back to Orange County Court.
