The Fort Montgomery Fire District says their gear has seen better days.

"Our equipment was worn. It was still usable but we were approaching its life expectancy and it needed to be replaced, both through NFPA standards, and even up to and approaching state law," said Fort Montgomery Fire District Captain Tommy Armstrong.

Thanks to some grants they've received, the entire department has new breathing apparatuses, and new gear.

"Full turnout gear, from their gloves to their helmets, and their hoods and everything," said Fort Montgomery Fire District Assistant Chief Ryan Falk.

And the firefighters needed to test the new gear.

"We figured we'd try something a little something different," said Falk.

That 'something different'  is dodgeball.

"It was very entertaining, but also very good to see the development of people and watching them control their breathing, make sure they'e not wasting air, rest when they can, while playing the game, being competitive, and trying to win at thte same time,"said Fort Montgomery Fire District Training Coordinator/ 2nd Lt.  Victor Porro.

Having fun, and getting in training. No matter which team lost, it sounds like everyone had a win-win situation.

"It was a good time, by everyone who participated, our members. It was good," said Falk.
