The Center For Discovery is meant to help those with disorders or disabilities live their best life.

"It works with and develops children and adults with complicated medical and physical situations. And our job is to get them to that next, better place and we do it in the best way that we possibly can," said Center For Discovery People Operations Vice President Marc Floyd.

That includes keeping them safe.

"We have some high-risk children who have elopement in their behavior or wandering in their behavior. And we felt the need to make sure through our Human Rights Commission and  parental approval to get these kids in a safe position so that we could be able to locate them if they are lost or walk away," said Center For Discovery Safety and Security Assistant Chief Scott Edwards.

So the center is involved in Project Lifesaver. A device can be attached by a bracelet, or to their shoe, and is used to find the person who wandered.

"If a resident of the Center For Discovery is missing, the sheriff's office would be notified, we would in turn notify the fire department and we would come out with our receivers and track the person down,” said Sullivan County Undersheriff Eric Chaboty.

The device is used to find the person wearing the transmitter in up to a five-mile radius.

"It doesn't depend on GPS or any of those technologies that can be obstructed by the clouds, or trees or inside a building," said Chaboty.

And now Project Lifesaver is available to public in Sullivan County, families can buy a transmitter for their loved one. For those who can't afford it, qualified applicants can apply to get one through the sheriff's office.
