A new development in the town of Poughkeepsie, as the woman charged with killing her boyfriend last year returned to Dutchess Supreme Court Wednesday.

Nicole Addimando, 29, was indicted in June on murder and manslaughter charges in the death of 30-year-old Christopher Grover.

Police say Addimando shot and killed Grover last September inside their unit at the Dutchess Apartments, and that she actually flagged down officers the night of the crime.

Addimando's attorneys argued Grover repeatedly abused her.

No decision was made on bail or release Wednesday — that has been postponed until August 29 while lawyers work to get an expert report on Addimando's mental state at the time of the shooting.

During Wednesday's court appearance, friends and family were supporting her.

“This case stands for concerns about domestic violence. We understand from a study done by the department of corrections that close to two thirds of women in jail for cases such as this were doing so in defense of themselves,” said family friend Elizabeth Clifton.

After the defense submits their expert report on whether Addimando was dealing with battered woman syndrome, the prosecution submits their expert report. That is due on October 12.

Until then, she is being held at the Dutchess County Jail.
