NARROWSBURG, N.Y. — Moving trucks are in front of the Narrowsburg Home for Adults, formerly known as Kelly's Home, as the facility moves toward full closure.

A spokesperson for the state Department of Health previously told Spectrum News they inspected the home after a complaint, and found people living at the home were not receiving appropriate care, and were living in deplorable conditions.

And upon further researching the DOH's facilities survey reports on their website, it shows the department found violations listed back to 2014, for issues like admissions standards, environmental standards and resident services.

Someone who identified themselves as a Narrowsburg Home manager said most of the 68 people who were living there have already been moved to facilities in Sullivan, Orange and Rockland Counties.

An employee who did not want to be identified said the violations that caused the closure announcement were easily fixable, and the DOH is wrong about the facility having deplorable conditions. The employee says workers were only given a little more than a week's notice about the closure, and many are heartbroken, shocked and now without a job. But this worker said there are many good memories from working there.

Sullivan County officials say the county is helping in the relocation of residents to state-certified facilities. Several sources have told Spectrum News the Narrowsburg Home was scheduled to close Monday afternoon, but that it cannot close until every resident is moved, and there are a few left that need to be placed.
