A young boy was hit by a car while walking with his bike along Route 17 in Monroe.

The Monroe police chief says the victim was walking along the shoulder when he tried to cross and was hit.

The boy was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center with possible head trauma and broken bones.

The chief says he's not sure of the severity of the boy's injuries, but he was conscious and alert when crews responded.

Police say no tickets were issued and they don't believe the driver was at fault.
