Gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon made a campaign stop in Ulster County Saturday to drum up support to get her on the ballot.

The Democrat spoke to a full room of supporters at the Old Dutch Reformed Church in Kingston. The event was organized by political advocacy group Citizens Action of New York.

Nixon spoke about issues such as criminal justice reform including legalization of marijuana, single payer health care and education reform.

We have to collect thousands of petition signatures from Democrats from across the state, so we're doing our part," said Jess Wisneski, the deputy director of Citizen Action of New York. "Volunteers are lining up at the table out there, and to knock on doors to let people know that they have a choice this September."

Citizen Action says it endorsed Nixon because of her progressive values and say that she's the candidate most in line with its political agenda.

Governor Andrew Cuomo earned the Democratic Party nomination. Nixon needs 15,000 petition signatures to be added to the primary ballot.
