The roundabout at the intersection of Smith Street and Creek Road in the city of Poughkeepsie now honors a fallen hero.

City officials unveiled a new sign at that roundabout in honor of Petty Officer First Class Corey Ingram with friends and family in attendance.

Ingram was killed when the U.S.S. John McCain crashed into an oil tanker off the coast of Singapore last August. He was born in Poughkeepsie and was a member of the Navy for nine years before his death.

"They'll remember someone who gave his life for his country. He paid the ultimate sacrifice," said Jerry Ingram, father of PO1 Ingram. "Not everyone is willing to do that kind of stuff, and he went out there and did what he had to do for the country."

Ingram's father Jerry, who is a veteran of the Air Force, says his son spent a lot of time in the area of the intersection. Ingram grew up on Smith Street and went to Dutchess County Community College.
