Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler says his office, along with 16 police agencies across the county, worked on a 2-month undercover investigation of drug trafficking.

Fifty people have been charged. Through undercover police officers and search warrants, police agenices uncovered fentanyl, heroin, cocaine and prescription drugs begin sold throughout the county.

Operation Joint Endeavor's announcement is meant to show the dangerous consequences of trafficking and using in the community. The DA says medical centers and local police have stepped up to improve their response and prevention of drug use.

"We've made some changes within our structure to be more responsive within our troop area within Orange County to ensure that we have the narcotics offficers and the intelligence people in place to continue to aggressively go after this," said New York State Police Troop F Commander Major Pierce Gallagher.

Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois says a proactive approach to prevent drug use is for schools to educate children about the consequences, and for parents to monitor their kids well. Hoovler notes Orange County drug court is full, and that county officials are doing what they can to help those struggling with addiction, and stop those trafficking. He adds that he believes the problem is with the lack of help from Albany and Washington, D.C.
