POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Nearly $2.5 million is going toward keeping people safe as they walk along Poughkeepsie City streets.

Mayor Rob Rollison says the state has awarded the city $2.4 million dollars as part of the Pedestrian Safety Action Plan grant program.

The money will be used in the city along high-trafficked areas where accidents have happened in the past including spots along Main, Mansion and Market Streets.

Plans include installing crosswalks, signage, installing pedestrian timers and creating pedestrian refuges at some crosswalks.
