The hamlet of Sugar Loaf is celebrating Memorial Day weekend with a spring festival welcoming visitors back to the area and showcasing the unique items produced there.

The Orange County artisan community runs the festival through Memorial Day and offers everything from face painting to candles, stones, clothing, live music and food.

Many of the items are handmade or handcrafted in Sugar Loaf by people who live there. Organizers say around 25 storefronts open up joined by other vendors and the event helps to shine a light on the area.

"We love to interact with people coming in, says Melissa Paone Somma local business owner who heads the Sugar Loaf Chamber of Commerce. "So this is just a way of just acquainting people who don't necessarily know about Sugar Loaf. They will come out for a festival and they will always come back to visit."

The festival runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. rain or shine in Sugar Loaf, located within the Town of Chester.
