The EPA outlined a four-step action plan to control water contamination when it comes to PFOA and PFOS substances.

PFOS is the substance that was found in Newburgh's Washington Lake due to runoff from Stewart Air National Guard Base.

At a leadership summit, the EPA's administrator laid out the four key parts of the PFAS plan. The first: evaluating the need for a maximum contaminant level for PFOA and PFOS in drinking water. Another designates the chemicals as "hazardous substances." They also plan to develop cleanup recomendations to contaminated sites by this coming fall.

The leadership summit includes leaders from all over the United States, from more than 40 states, including New York.
