A familiar face in Orange County is now a Senate candidate.
Monday, dozens of supporters gathered in Goshen as Orange County Clerk Annie Rabbitt announced her run for Senate. Rabbitt has served as clerk for nearly 5 years, but has also been in different public service roles, previously serving as an Assemblywoman.
She is running for the seat Republican Senator John Bonacic currently holds. Bonacic announced last week that he is not running for re-election.
Rabbitt says she wants people in the 42nd District to know her priorities will be infrastructure like crumbling streets, and also helping small businesses.
"We talk about bringing businesses here, which I’m so in favor of. it’s a great thing," Rabbitt said. "But you have so many businesses that are here that need help, and we really need to focus on that."
Rabbitt tells us she has big shoes to fill if she wins the election, but she's confident she can help constituents in the district.
The Democratic contender for this seat is Pramilla Malick, Protect Orange County's chairperson. Malick notes she feels the CPV plant will be a big issue in this Senate race.
