A fire at the Hudson River Psychiatric Center has been ruled intentional.

In a press release, Fairview Fire District chief Christopher Maeder said the fire started near 4 a.m. Friday, and multiple agencies responded. After most of the fire was knocked down, firefighters say the fire had extended to another part of the building.

Poughkeepsie Town Supervisor Jon Baisley said there have been other fires at the abandoned psych center over the years. Between the amount of manpower and resources being used, Baisley noted fighting the fire is difficult at the site.

"It puts a strain on the water system," Baisley said. "The amount of water flowing up there, some people may get water compaints, you know, the fact that so much water is going and they have to pull the water from a far distance because there's not many hydrants on the site that work at this time, because the site's bascially closed down."

The supervisor says there are no injuries as of yet. Maeder said the property's developers are offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of a suspect.
