Etain Health Chief Operating Officer Hillary Peckham sits in her office at Etain's Kingston location paging through a binder of patient testimonials about how medical marijuana products have improved their lives.

"A big improvement," Peckham reads from one testimonal. "Able to walk for up to two hours, spent some time in the store, which he has not been able to do for a few years."

Peckham, 26, is especially excited about Etain's newest offering: a water-soluble powder made with cannabis and beet sugar. She anticipates more positive feedback on this product because of how simple it is to administer.

Instructional videos on Etain's YouTube channel show the ease by which a dose of the medication can be prepared.

The powder, which Etain began offering last week, dissolves immediately into water, coffee, a smoothie, or even soup. It has almost no taste.

Peckham expects patients to like it for several reasons. She said the powder is portable, convenient and can be used anywhere.

Another reason she expects it to be popular is that some patients suffering from pain or impaired dexterity might be unable to do the prep work that some other ingestion methods require.

"For patients with limited dexterity, this is very versatile and very easy to use," Peckham said. "It's [used] with very comfortable, familiar tools as well. So it's something that a lot of patients can incorporate very easily."

For Peckham, Etain's mission to make medical marijuana more tolerable and easier to administer, is personal.

Peckham said she, her mother and her sister began researching medical marijuana partly because the three spent years trying to manage Peckham's late grandmother's severe pain she had toward the end of her battle with ALS.

"We became passionate about this industry after a doctor suggested she try marijuana," Peckham said. "We weren't able to access it, or get it for her."

Currently, Etain is the only dispensary approved by the New York State Department of Health to offer marijuana powder.

Etain has locations in New York City, Yonkers, Kingston and Syracuse.

Peckham said Etain is likely to be offering other new forms of medical marijuana later in 2018, as some products are awaiting testing by the Department of Health.

She said those new forms include a topical lotion, a honey lozenge and ground flour.
