State Assemblyman Frank Skartados, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January and was admitted for respiratory issues in March, has died.

Skartados served more than four terms as a state assemblyman for the 104th District, serving the greater Orange County region at the State Capitol.

While serving in office, Skartados focused on environmental issues, including ship anchorages in the Hudson River and the proposed Pilgrim Pipeline.

Skartados was also instrumental in getting funding secured to complete the Walkway Over the Hudson back in 2009.

Skartados was 62 years old.
