The Sandhurst Competition is a series of events on both land and in water to test participants' basic skills, plus mental and physical fitness.

There are 64 teams, mostly U.S. Military Academy cadet companies, ROTC companies from around the country and sister service academies like the U.S. Naval Academy. But there are also international companies.

The main point is to inspire cadets to achieve military excellence, and to learn to work with each other.

"The most important things cadets get out of this is they build the relationships between themselves and some of their brother and sister service academies, ROTC academies or international academies that they'll no doubt see out there somewhere in the world, later on in the future," said Department of Military Instruction Operations Officer Major Patrick Flynn.

The competition ends Saturday evening, when the winning team will be announced.
