In Dutchess County, on the southeastern edge of Central Hudson's service area, a local pharmacy owner said that if the area's fourth nor'easter causes mass power outages, he will turn his store into a resource center for people without power.

Community gatherings and parties at Hopewell Junction Drug Store are common; owner Steven Bellantoni figured a different kind of party was in order two weeks ago when consecutive nor'easters blew out power to more than 50,000 Central Hudson customers.

Hopewell Junction and East Fishkill were among the communities with the highest concentrations of power outages during the first two storms.

Tens of thousands southeast of Poughkeepsie had service disruptions, prompting Bellantoni to post an invitation on Facebook for anyone in need of electricity or warmth to spend an afternoon at the pharmacy.

"We turned the heat up. We turned the TV on, so that this way, they can see what's going on," Bellantoni said as he lifted a tangled cluster of phone charging cords from beneath the counter. "We even had some pizza and some meatballs for everybody to eat. We had a very good turnout."

A Central Hudson spokesperson said on Wednesday morning that this fourth major storm may cause more outages than the previous storm did, but that Central Hudson does not expect it to be like the first two storms that directly hit the Hudson Valley.

He also said Central Hudson did some proactive trimming near power lines ahead of the storm, hopefully minimizing outages later this week.

In the case that people here do suffer widespread outages, Bellantoni said he has "enough chargers for everybody here," and that the pharmacy is on standby.

"That's why we open this door here," Bellantoni said. "... Because it's really all about community."
