WARWICK, N.Y. -- The Liberty Green apartment complex is affordable housing for elderly tenants, but Victoria Palmieri says managerial staff sprayed pesticide after a 2016 bedbug infestation, and that caused her and others to get sick.

Palmieri says she had to move out, and also feels her requests to try alternate pest treatments weren't being listened to. She is now suing under the Fair Housing Act and Rehabilitation Act.

"I hope that people will learn that the proper treatment is heat treatment. Also, the treatment house of the preparation for the bug spray or even the gel is very arduous for all these old people who live there, all these old, sick people," said Palmieri.

We reached out to Devon Management Corporation, the company that runs the complex. The chief operating officer tells us they have monthly preventative pesticide treatment that is DEC-certified, and they haven't had issues in the 2,500 apartments they manage.
