Revelers are out in full force in bars and restaurants across the Hudson Valley in honor of St Patrick’s Day

At Sweeney’s Irish Pub in Walden, the Saint Patty’s Day party started yesterday.

Sweeney’s owner said the holiday brings out an energized crowd who all want to celebrate Irish heritage and have some fun, too.

The bar has been around for 21 years, and even rebuilt after a fire. They’re serving traditional Irish and Irish American dishes and of course a bunch of pints.

“Guinness is number one end of story, that's all there is to it,” said Michael Gregg. “It's mother's milk as they say.”

“It's a great day for me because it's like another birthday,” said Gary Sweeney. “Everybody wants to buy me a drink today. It’s loves and kisses and lipstick all over for me today. So it's a special day for everybody really.”

Sweeney’s and other bars around the region are also participating in the alert cab. The program offers free cab rides home within 10 miles of the bar.
