HUDSON VALLEY, N.Y. -- The New York State Department of Health is warning locals about a possible measles exposure in the Hudson Valley.

Measles is a highly contagious respiratory disease caused by a virus that is spread by direct contact with nasal or throat secretions.

According to state officials, an Australian tourist with a confirmed case of measles was in Goshen and Middletown.

Anyone who visited the following locations may have been exposed:

  • Comfort Inn and Suites in Goshen on February 20th and 21st
  • Excel Urgent Care in Goshen on February 21st.
  • Orange Regional Medical Center emergency department on February 21st.

They say the risk of developing measles is very low, especially for people who have been immunized.

Individuals who are not sure if they have been vaccinated, should contact their health care provider if they develop measles symptoms.

Symptoms include a fever, rash, cough, conjunctivitis or runny nose. Symptoms usually appear in 10-12 days after exposure.
