The city of Newburgh is suing over the contamination around Washington Lake.

City leaders say waste practices at Stewart Air National Guard Base, Stewart International Airport and elsewhere caused dangerous levels of PFOS to poison their water.

At least 10 parties are named in the notice, including New York State, the Federal Express Corporation and the New York Air National Guard.

The city stopped using Washington Lake as a water source in 2016 due to those unsafe levels of PFOS.

A number of residents have undergone blood testing to determine their exposure to the contamination.

The notices say the city could move forward with plans to sue within the next few months.
