An Orange County legislator is running for Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney's job.

Legislator James O' Donnell says come November, he hopes to Run on the Republican line in the 18th Congressional District race. O'Donnell is a former deputy county executive, county economic development director, and IDA executive director. He is also a former State Police Lieutenant Colonel and former MTA Police Chief.

The candidate said he wants to focus on fighting the opioid crisis, enhance community policing, improve transportation, and shorten term limits for Congress. O'Donnell said he's also running to keep the Democrats from taking control of the house. 

"I want to make sure they keep control of Congress so we can keep these programs going, where we have companies coming back to the country," said O'Donnell. "Where we can get the immigration problem solved once and for all, where we can have secure borders but continue this country of immigrants and continue to prosper."

O'Donnell said he's also involved in community organizations like Safe Homes, the Newburgh Armory Center and the Goshen Rotary.
