HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- The president of Dutchess Tourism says winter tends to be slower than other seasons, but January is the time to honor former president Franklin Delano Roosevelt's birthday.

A potential government shutdown brings flashbacks of the 2013 shutdown, when the Franklin Delano Roosevelt National Historic Site was closed down.

"Not only did the library and museum and the home lose visitors, but also some of the small businesses around the community lost business," said Dutchess Tourism President Mary Kay Vrba.

Vrba said that even if a shutdown is avoided or eventually worked out, now is the time people are making plans for quick weekend getaways when winter recedes.
