KINGSTON, N.Y. -- People packed Point of Praise Family Life Center Sunday night just one day before what would have been Doctor Martin Luther King Jr.'s 89th birthday.

Musicians, speakers, poets, and other members of the community gathered to honor the legacy of Doctor King who spent his life fighting against laws that encouraged discrimination against black people in the south. People there said his message is still relevant today.

The event was organized by Ulster County Minister's Alliance, Kingston Interface Council and Point of Praise Family Life Center.
