POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Many people in Poughkeepsie celebrated the birthday of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by marching through the city Monday.

People gathered at Smith Metropolitan AME Zion Church for the 23rd annual Mid-Hudson Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. March for Social and Economic Justice. People sang songs and gave speeches before marching through the city.

Participants said social and economic justice goes hand in hand with King’s legacy. They hope others are inspired to get involved.
