Supporting those who have endured the trauma of sexual assault is about providing resources and putting survivor needs first.

The Mental Health Association in Orange County works with and coordinates response for survivors of sexual assault, rape incest and sex trafficking, navigating them through the process of getting help after a trauma. These advocates say that each situation is different - and for some, the hardest part is coming forward.

Recent statistics from the Rape, Assault, Incest National Network (RAINN) report that every 98 seconds, someone in America is sexually assaulted.

The organization provides resources for sexual assault forensic examinations, connects survivors with medication and support, and follows up with them to help them through the healing process. They operate a helpline 24 hours a day, seven days a week to assist those who have experienced sexual trauma.

"We really try hard to make that process as easy and as streamlined as we can, because it is very tough to talk about that very personal event that has happened to you," said Tina Conneely, sexual assault examiners program coordinator for MHA.
