MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- It's expected to be a busy season at gyms as people look to burn off those holiday pounds, or start 2018 being healthier.

The new year means new chance, and new goals. For some, that means a healthier lifestyle. In Middletown, Planet Fitness staff members said more people join the gym around the end of the year and beginning of January. But the amount of people coming in tends to dip around March and April.

A manager says it's important to remember that fitness helps make a positive change, no matter your age or health history.

"Whether they have health problems, if they have joint issues or if they've have surgeries, or anything like that, if they're just looking for something like to get their blood sugars down. Fitness helps everything, and a lot of people don't realize how it can actually improve every part of your life," said Planet Fitness General Manager Alissa Coschigano.

Coschigano said anyone who wants to achieve good health has to take realistic goals-one step, rep, or pedal at a time.
