It took crews five hours to get a massive fire in Bedford-Stuyvesant under control.

Crews responded to flames at a hardware store on Fulton Street shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday.

The fire broke out on the first floor and quickly spread to the upper levels.

The second floor collapsed completely.

Officials say the fire is being investigated as suspicious due to the large volume of flames.

A witness we spoke with says he helped evacuate a family who lives in the building.

"I was passing by, I was coming form 7-11," the witness said. "If you can help, you help. That's when I ran and called 911. Tried to help, there's people who live upstairs too."

The neighboring building was evacuated.

Officials say one firefighter was injured.
